How to Auto-Sync reMarkable Documents to Obsidian via TaskRobin

· Daniel from TaskRobin.io

Getting your handwritten notes, sketches, and marked-up PDFs off your reMarkable tablet and into a “second brain” like Obsidian can often feel like a tedious, manual process. If you rely on Obsidian to centralize your knowledge, breaking down the silos between your devices is crucial.

However, automating this workflow presents a unique challenge: when you share documents directly from your reMarkable, the tablet sends them from a generic, shared origin email address (my@remarkable.com). Because the sender email isn’t unique to you, direct tool-to-tool integrations can be complicated or outright impossible.

The solution? You can set up a completely hands-off automation by routing your files through your personal email inbox (like Gmail) directly to TaskRobin.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to automate your reMarkable exports so they sync seamlessly into your Obsidian vault.

What is TaskRobin?

If you’re new here, welcome! TaskRobin is an integration tool purposely built to boost productivity and streamline your email workflows. It allows you to save emails—along with their metadata (like subject lines, timestamps, and contacts) and attachments—directly into workspaces like Obsidian, Notion, Airtable, and Google Drive.

For Obsidian users specifically, the TaskRobin Obsidian plugin bridges the gap between your inbox and your knowledge vault.

  • Seamless Syncing: It syncs email message content, details, and attachments directly as Markdown notes.
  • Knowledge Management: It helps you organize and link email correspondence directly within your second brain.
  • Simplicity: Enjoy a simple setup entirely within Obsidian and a dedicated sync button for a frictionless email-to-note workflow.

Best of all, TaskRobin is highly cost-effective. We offer a 7-day free trial with no payment setup required, and paid plans start at just $2.49/month.

Step 1: Send reMarkable Documents to Your Inbox

To kick off the workflow, you’ll need to send your document from your reMarkable tablet to your personal email address.

  1. On your reMarkable device, open the notebook or document you want to export.
  2. Select the Send by email function.
  3. Enter your own personal email address (e.g., your primary Gmail account) as the recipient.

Note: In your inbox, this email will arrive from my@remarkable.com and will contain your document as a file attachment (usually a PDF or PNG).

Step 2: Set Up the TaskRobin Obsidian Plugin

You don’t even need to leave your vault to set up your account. We’ll configure everything directly inside Obsidian.

  1. Install the Plugin: Open your Obsidian app, browse the Community Plugins, search for Sync Email by TaskRobin, and hit install.
  2. Open Plugin Settings: Once enabled, navigate to the TaskRobin plugin settings within Obsidian.
  3. Configure Your Details: Enter your personal email address (the same inbox you sent your reMarkable document to in Step 1).
  4. Create Your Forwarding Address: Directly in the plugin settings, create and copy your customized private forwarding email address. Keep this handy for the next step!

Step 3: Set Up Auto-Forwarding Rules (The Automation Magic)

This is where the magic happens. We want to automatically push those arriving reMarkable documents to TaskRobin without you having to lift a finger.

  1. Set up Gmail Forwarding: Go into your Gmail settings (or your respective email provider) and add your unique TaskRobin forwarding address (from Step 2) as an official forwarding address.
  2. Create a Filter: Now, create a filter to ensure only your reMarkable notes get forwarded to your vault.
    • Trigger: Set the filter to trigger for any emails arriving from my@remarkable.com.
    • Action: Set the action to automatically forward these emails to your customized TaskRobin forwarding address.

Once you confirm the auto-forwarding to a TaskRobin forwarding email, our system will automatically send you the confirmation link and code.

Now, every time you email a document from your reMarkable to yourself, Gmail will instantly bounce it over to TaskRobin. Completely hands-off!

Step 4: Sync into Your Obsidian Vault

The final step is pulling those processed notes down into your local Obsidian environment.

  1. Click Sync: Jump back into your Obsidian vault, look for the TaskRobin icon in your left-side vertical panel, and simply hit the “Sync now” button.

The Result: TaskRobin automatically downloads your forwarded reMarkable attachments (PDFs, PNGs, etc.) and email bodies, immediately converting them into organized, searchable Markdown notes right inside your designated folder.

Conclusion

By setting up this simple pipeline - reMarkable -> Personal Email Inbox -> Auto-Forward to TaskRobin -> Obsidian Vault - you can drastically reduce the friction of managing handwritten notes.

This workflow eliminates manual data entry, helps centralize your digital assets, and ensures your “second brain” is always up to date with your latest ideas and sketches.
